Punjab School Education Department to Eliminate Thousands of Vacant Positions

The Punjab School Education Department has announced a significant decision to eliminate thousands of unfilled teaching and non-teaching positions across schools in the province.

Vacant Positions to Be Removed

The department has directed District Education Authorities to submit data on all vacant posts that have remained unfilled for the past two years. According to the latest directive, vacant positions from Grade 5 to Grade 16 will be eliminated from the system.

Official Directive Sent to District Authorities

A formal letter has been issued to the respective District Education Authorities, instructing them to provide a comprehensive record of all unfilled posts in their districts.

Previous Cuts in Teaching Positions

This move follows the department’s earlier decision to remove over 50,000 teaching positions. Despite that, a large number of teaching and non-teaching vacancies continue to exist in schools across Punjab.

Impact on Education Sector

The decision to eliminate these positions raises concerns regarding the shortage of staff in schools, especially in rural areas where educational resources are already limited. However, the government is expected to take further steps to optimize the workforce and address staffing issues in a more structured manner.

This latest development is part of broader reforms aimed at streamlining the education system in Punjab and allocating resources more efficiently.
